The update on the customs issue is that Tim went back into the airport and went through the labor of the paperwork and payment for the duty on the Automatic Transfer Switch. This cost over $500.00. Thankfully, we have all of the parts here and will be transporting it to Monte Blanco tomorrow. Apparently the customs inspectors are being very thorough and there are many horror stories. Tim mentioned that he was amazed at how many people were running into the same issues we had last night. It seems to be pretty chaotic out there at the airport and we will have to give the rest of our team some good instructions and suggestions to minimize delays of that sort. Fortunately it seems that the inspectors are doing their job correctly instead of secretly taking bribes, etc.
The morning started out sitting at the table with Tim Ramsey's father, Chuck Ramsey, and listening to him talking about the book he is writing detailing his 50+ years of missionary work here in Bolivia. He is a wealth of information and a very respected man.
Tom, Tim, Don and Gary went to the Eplabol headquarters this afternoon and met with Mission officials as well as the President to JAH Electrical Construction, whose company will be doing much of the aerial secondary wiring that we will be connecting to. This was a very productive meeting and many details were ironed out as to who is doing what part of the work. It will be exciting to work with these fine people in the days ahead.
